Project overview

A summary of the research topics in the field of work “aquaculture":

  • Studies on new process technologies for trout production
  • Development and suitability test for combining intensive production and a static pond (the “pond-in-pond principle”)
  • Using net cages in open-cast lignite mining lakes
  • Studies on redesigning trout raceway systems into water saving, partly closed recirculation systems
  • Optimising the breeding of pike-perches using dry feed
  • Breeding whitefish using the pond-in-pond principle
  • Developing and checking the performance of a self-cleaning inert gas denitrification reactor (SID reactor) for closed recirculation systems when keeping types of fish that react sensitively to nitrate
  • Dry feed from preserved by-products for processing freshwater fish and using them for carnivorous aquaculture candidates
  • Vitamin D content in commercial fish bred in Germany – studies on the effects of the environment where the fish are kept and approaches to increasing vitamin D levels
