Ecology of fish and waterbodies

Lakes and rivers are used in all sorts of ways in Germany: for energy generation, commercial shipping, water supplies, regulating water levels or fishing in commercial terms – or for swimming, boating and angling for recreational purposes – but also for nature conservation and the protection of species. The use of these inland waters results in risks or restrictions, but at least consequences for the lakes and rivers themselves and the fish living in them.

The fish and aquatic ecology field of work deals with the needs of fish in terms of their habitat, their behaviour, their development and their interaction with their environment. The aim of this work is to protect and promote inland waters and fish communities as the basis for commercial fishing.
